Scholarly iQ’s usage reporting service ORCA will now include integrated Organisation and Country data from IPinfo.
The integration will extend ORCA’s low-cost option for reporting COUNTER processed metrics for global item usage of content, authors and subjects to include attribution for user affiliation and geo-location. The service will now further inform publishers with scalable, flexible analytics and embedded metrics about audience and reach as well as usage impact.
Following rigorous testing, SiQ selected the IPinfo.io ‘IP to Company’ database as the most reliable, accurate and in-depth source of this IP address data including 3.7Million company entries with over 100,000 identified in the educational sector. The extensive IPinfo dataset provides improved coverage for identifying and understanding user organisations accessing both OA and subscription content to better measure and report audience reach and content usage.
Stuart Maxwell, COO of Scholarly iQ commented ‘As COUNTER usage reporting in Release 5.1 will pivot to the Item for the fundamental unit of reporting, it is fantastic to be able to support any publisher provide the knowledge community with trusted COUNTER processed global metrics without any complicated implementation. The item and global report data are not yet available for all publishers and including free attribution of usage adds another layer of insight about who is accessing what content and how. The next iteration of COUNTER is aimed to provide more granularity for usage impact at the item level so that more varied economic models are supported with trusted data rather than unverified downloads. We are delighted to be able to support this with ORCA and let any publisher test out their own data for free.’
