Scholarly publisher De Gruyter has announced significant staff changes at its Boston office, bolstering the team with "seasoned expertise".
The newest addition to the Boston team is Peter J. Potter, who assumes the role of Vice President for De Gruyter's service business and also serves as Executive Director of eBound. Peter's background in scholarly publishing and digital technologies brings invaluable insights to De Gruyter. Over the course of his career, he has been at the forefront of embracing digital technologies in scholarly publishing, co-founding one of the earliest university-based centers dedicated to digital scholarly publishing. Additionally, Peter played a pivotal role in establishing Virginia Tech Publishing, a university publisher tailored to the specific needs of the local academic community. His leadership in national and international initiatives, including TOME (Toward An Open Monograph Ecosystem), further solidifies his experience as a visionary in integrating scholarly book publishing into the broader information infrastructure.
As Vice President, Peter will unify De Gruyter's publishing services offer to academic institutions, societies, and publishers, harnessing the potential of its imprints Ubiquity and Sciendo, along with its Publisher Partner Program. In his role as Executive Director of eBound, Peter will lead the strategic development and operations of De Gruyter's not-for-profit foundation, which was launched in 2022, aimed at supporting mission-driven scholarly monograph publishing.
Alongside Peter's appointment, De Gruyter has promoted Steve Fallon to the position of President of DG Inc. Steve possesses a profound understanding of the scholarly publishing landscape and an unwavering commitment to growth and collaboration.
