Bloomsbury Digital Resources, in partnership with the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and the University of London, has released Bloomsbury Architecture Library, a new architectural studies digital platform designed for students, scholars, and professionals in the fields of architecture and interior design, combining scholarly, curated, text and image content with search and browse tools.
At the heart of the new platform sits the 21st edition of the reference work Sir Banister Fletcher’s Global History of Architecture published in partnership with the Royal Institute of British Architects and the University of London and available in digital form for the first time. Edited by Murray Fraser, Professor of Architecture and Global Culture at The Bartlett School of Architecture, this new edition has been re-written by over 80 international experts. The new text reflects significant shifts in perspective over the 30 years since the book was last published, and heralds a globalised approach to architectural history. The two-volume print edition will be published in the autumn and is available for preorder.
Bloomsbury Architecture Library is being launched with a range of content complementary to Banister Fletcher, including 42 e-books on topics ranging from architectural history and theory to design, urbanism, landscape, and interiors.
Features include:
- ‘Building Pages’ with key information about the world’s most important buildings
- a clickable world map linked to building pages and articles
- an interactive timeline showing movements, themes, and periods
- a glossary
- zoomable illustrations
Future updates will add new books and materials to the platform twice a year, including 600 images to be added from the National Archive at Kew.
