The National Open Research Forum (NORF), the Irish Research eLibrary (IReL), and OpenAIRE have announced the launch of the National Open Access Monitor, a cornerstone in Ireland's shift towards a fully open access research ecosystem. This launch marks a significant phase in a project that began months ago, following OpenAIRE's selection through a competitive tendering process. This initiative aims to support the shift towards transparency and accessibility of Irish research publications, and tracking Ireland’s goal of 100% of publicly funded research being open access by 2030.

Driving Priorities with Precision and Efficiency
Currently in its pilot phase, the National Open Access Monitor is dedicated to improving data quality and expanding functionalities, with the final product delivery set for June 2024. This innovative platform offers an assortment of features allowing for the customisation of monitoring, benchmarking, and evaluation, facilitating evidence-based decisions to advance Open Science initiatives.
Empowering the Research Community through Tailored Insights
The platform provides diverse dashboard types for exploring role-specific insights, tailored to the needs of Research Performing Organisations (RPOs), Research Funding Organisations (RFOs), Researchers, Institutional Repositories, and the encompassing National Dashboard. These dashboards enable users to measure their progress effectively in alignment with community standards and assess the impact of their Open Science initiatives. The National Dashboard offers an expansive view, featuring cross-country benchmarking and in-depth breakdowns specific to Ireland, serving as a key resource for policymakers, publishers, and anyone interested in a comprehensive overview of the national Open Science landscape.
Beyond benchmarking and evaluation, the platform offers functionalities such as synchronisation with ORCID records, linking research outcomes to projects and communities, and uploading DOIs for more detailed publication information. Such features not only enhance data quality but also facilitate evidence-based decision-making. By transforming complex data into actionable insights, the platform aims to serve as a collaboration catalyst, fostering partnerships crucial for advancing Open Science. Active user engagement is therefore strongly encouraged. With tools provided for refining and improving data quality, all participation contributes towards shaping a robust environment where open access can thrive.
