In September 2023 the Royal Society of Chemistry launched their vision for a great science culture. It outlines the key qualities and foundations of a positive science culture, as well as the underpinning role of recognition in incentivising individuals, teams, and organisations to contribute to an enabling community and quality science (outlined in the schematic). Emma Wilson outlines the process they went through, the research undertaken and the outcomes they are looking for.

Two key events coming up in 2024

Rob Johnson from Research Consulting offers guidance on the operating and financing model(s) to establish Open Research Europe (ORE), the European Commission’s open access publishing platform, as a collective non-profit publishing service from 2026.

The American Medical Student Association (AMSA) and Taylor & Francis have announced a partnership to inform and inspire tomorrow’s physicians and support the Association’s equitable healthcare vision.

Editage, a brand of Cactus Communications (CACTUS), has joined forces with Becaris Publishing, publisher of the Journal of Comparative Effectiveness Research, to elevate research communication services for authors.

Snapp (Springer Nature’s Article Processing Platform) aims to improve the publishing process and provide a more agile response to the growth in Open Access (OA). Its rollout marks a key investment from the company in the future of publishing.

ResearchGate and AIP Publishing have announced AIP Publishing’s core group of open access journals will benefit from an enhanced presence on ResearchGate through the network’s Journal Home offering. The agreement covers seven journals, including three new launches: APL Energy, APL Machine Learning, and APL Quantum (which will publish its first content in 2024).

Sage has launched a tool to empower researchers to discover the real-world impact of their work on policy. Sage Policy Profiles lets researchers easily see specific citations of their work in policy documents and then illustrate and share that work’s impact graphically. The tool is powered by Overton, which hosts an extensive repository of global policy documents, guidelines, think-tank publications, and working papers.

Clarivate has announced it has enriched ProQuestTM Dissertations & Theses Citation Index, integrating over 172 million cited references from ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global within the Web of Science platform and interconnecting both platforms.
