2020 John Merriman Joint NASIG/UKSG Award

21 January 2020

Applications are invited for the joint NASIG/UKSG award to attend the premier conference for the scholarly information community on the other side of the Atlantic – the NASIG Annual Conference in Spokane, WA, 8 – 12 June 2020.

Each year NASIG and UKSG offer two members, one from NASIG and one from UKSG, the chance to attend each other’s annual conference. The award covers the conference fee, return travel to the US and accommodation costs. The UK award winner will be supported by the sponsorship of Taylor & Francis Group for the US trip and will in addition receive full financial support from UKSG to attend the UKSG conference.

Named in honour of John Merriman, in recognition of his work in founding both UKSG and NASIG, this award provides an invaluable opportunity for anyone keen to learn and share experiences from a different angle.

Katherine Stephan, Research Support Librarian at Liverpool John Moores University and last year’s winner, found the experience enjoyable and rewarding:

“It was a pleasure and a privilege to win the Merriman award. As someone relatively new to research support, but with a strong commitment to scholarly communications and open research more generally, it was fantastic to experience both the UKSG and NASIG conferences and learn first-hand about developments, achievements and share with others at institutions from North America, Europe and beyond. I was able to network, socialise and learn from so many people in a concentrated period of time-and it has led onto connections and collaborations, too!”

Full details on eligibility and how to apply can be found on the UKSG website. Application forms and reference questionnaires should be submitted by 15 February 2020.
