At in-person events, sustainability is at the forefront of our minds. We are actively implementing initiatives aimed at reducing our carbon footprint and constantly brainstorming ways to enhance the environmental friendliness of our events in the future.
What we’re doing at the moment:
- Digital programmes/event apps to cut down on our paper and energy usage
- Avoiding red meat as much as possible and favouring vegetarian and vegan options when choosing food for our events
- Selecting food options and service styles that minimise food waste, with surplus food being donated to charity where we can.
- Recycling names tags/holders and lanyards – please leave these in the recycle boxes at the end of the event
- Avoiding laminating posters to reduce plastic use and recycling as much as we can
- Avoiding use of disposable cups and cutlery where possible
- While we will be using a mainly using reusable cups, where this is not possible our catering team will be using Vegware compostable cups and food containers. (Vegware is made from plants using renewable, recycled or reclaimed materials from a a variety of plant-based materials)
- Recycling bins (Packaging will then be collected separately for industrial composting with waste partner Recorra)
- Food waste
- Compostable packaging bin (Lunch & coffee cups/ lids)
- After the 2025 conference we are hoping to have event specific data to see how much was collected and composted which we can share with you at a later date
- Encouraging delegates to bring/use refillable water bottles. If you don’t have your own, there will be free water bottles available from reception (our thanks to Perlego for the support). While water filled tapped Kilner jars will be available at catering points we encourage you to fill your larger bottles from the following water fountains:
- Ground floor: East corridor between the Brighton Centre Info desk & cloakroom
- Level 1: South East landing opposite the public lifts
- Level 1: West bar area – between the toilets and bar
- Working with our venues, catering contractors and local area organisations to reduce waste –

- Seasoned our catering team also have more initiatives here and support Life Water and Drop4Drop on various projects – click here
- Brighton & Hove City Council have made their commitment to being carbon neutral by 2030, including by deciding to commit to and working towards 5 of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
- Using digital signage at the venue where possible to reduce paper usage
What we’re focusing in improving long-term:
- Working with exhibitors to reduce the amount of merchandise at our events or opting for eco-friendly/local options and considering longevity of giveaways.
- Reducing food waste.
While we acknowledge that there is still lots of progress to be made, we welcome your suggestions for future events.
