Janeway has announced a new collaboration with PLOS to develop and extend the Janeway codebase for use in parts of PLOS’s article submission process. As part of the collaboration, PLOS is contributing engineering effort, code and ideas upstream, helping to develop shared open-source infrastructure for the benefit of both PLOS and the wider scholarly publishing community.

This is part of PLOS’s efforts to develop and contribute to open, shared infrastructure as part of its role in the open science ecosystem. It also reflects the core values on which Janeway is developed, based on the principles of open source and collaborative approaches to shared infrastructure. This means developing code and shared components that can be used and built upon by the wider Janeway community. By contributing to open tools and open shared infrastructure, PLOS aims to help strengthen the knowledge commons while reducing duplication and fragmentation across the system.
