Research Libraries UK has published the newly developed resource ‘Developing Inclusive Collections: a self-paced guide on reflective practice’, which provides a comprehensive framework for professionals at all career stages to engage with collection-based decolonisation and the development of diverse and inclusive collections, more generally.
The development of this resource has been led by the RLUK Decolonisation Group in response to the findings of the RLUK report on ‘Developing Inclusive Collections: understanding current practices and needs of RLUK research libraries’ that indicated that many library professionals leading or supporting collection-based decolonisation initiatives in member institutions need more support in terms of training and skills development.
The self-paced guide supports learners in developing the skills needed to create inclusive and diverse collections, helping institutions become more representative of the communities they serve. It also encourages critical reflection on professional practice, supporting progress and continuous professional development.
This resource will be particularly useful to anyone working or aiming to work in collection-based decolonisation and would like to reflect and build on their existing knowledge and skills or learn how to get started. Colleagues from all career levels may find this guide helpful as everyone’s journey and starting point in this area is different.
The Developing Inclusive Collections Guide can be accessed on the RLUK website.
