2 March 2026

It’s a great honour to be named the next co-editor of UKSG eNews and I am looking forward to working with Tom. I have been a long-time reader of eNews and I thought it was time to step forward and contribute from the editorial side.
In my role as Library Sales Director at Cambridge University Press I lead the sales and enablement teams in the Americas, the UK, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Due to Cambridge’s unusually broad publishing profile, my team works with libraries on print and digital research books, textbooks, Open publishing agreements for journals and books, both STM and HSS, and much else besides. That breadth comes with plenty of challenges, but it means that I have been lucky enough to be exposed to many of the issues and opportunities in the scholarly communications sector. I have seen plenty of innovation and change since I joined Cambridge in 2010, and I am steadfastly optimistic about our industry’s ability to adapt to changing circumstances. I hope to bring that same constructive, problem-solving approach to the pages of eNews.
One of the things I like most about working in our industry is that it tends to attract interesting, passionate people who care about the long-term, and about the greater good beyond themselves. It’s true of people working at publishers, universities, libraries, intermediaries, consortia, suppliers – nearly everyone! For this reason, the best and most interesting initiatives in scholarly communications are the fruits of collaboration. Any successful innovations or strategies that we have delivered at Cambridge have been the result of co-creation with universities and libraries. I would love to publish stories and editorials that show examples of what we can achieve when we approach challenges collectively. Please get in touch with me if you have an idea, or if you are working on something interesting that could benefit others. Or even better, come and find me in Glasgow at the end of March.
On a personal note, I live in Cambridge with my family. The domestic and work schedules are both demanding, but I look forward to reading for 10 minutes at the end of the day. One of our major goals for 2026 is to get a kitten or kittens. If anyone has advice on the one versus two cats debate, please get in touch!
