The Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) today announced a strategic partnership with GeoScienceWorld (GSW) to manage its publishing operations. This collaboration represents a significant step in SEG’s ongoing evolution, designed to enhance the quality and reach of its esteemed publications while ensuring their long-term sustainability. Recognizing the dynamic nature of the publishing landscape, SEG is proactively embracing this partnership to streamline operations and position itself for future growth. By leveraging GSW’s expertise and infrastructure, SEG can focus on strategic initiatives that benefit its members and the broader geophysics community. SEG will retain full control and ownership of its publications, continuing to manage editorial strategy, appointments and pricing.
“This partnership with GeoScienceWorld is an exciting new chapter for SEG’s journals,” said John Eastwood, SEG President. “It allows us to combine our strengths with GSW’s specialized expertise, ensuring the continued excellence and accessibility of our publications. We are confident that this collaboration will not only enhance our operational efficiency but also open new opportunities for innovation and growth in the years to come.”
Phoebe McMellon, CEO of GeoScienceWorld notes, “As a founding partner of GeoScienceWorld, SEG has been with GSW from the very beginning, shaping the organization as a mission-based nonprofit dedicated to sustaining society publishing and serving the larger geoscience community. Partnering with SEG on high quality publishing services that bring economies of scale to publishers and trusted science to researchers is just the latest example of what we can accomplish through collaboration.”
This partnership is expected to generate new revenue streams and identify collaborative opportunities for growth. The transition and implementation will be carefully managed to ensure seamless experience for SEG members and the global geophysics community.
“This strategic partnership reflects SEG’s commitment to evolving and innovating to best serve our members,” said Jim White, SEG Executive Director. “We are excited about the future of our journals and believe that working with GeoScienceWorld will strengthen our publications, enhance their impact, and ensure their continued relevance for years to come.”
