Kudos has announced a new partnership with the Public Library of Science (PLOS). PLOS authors will benefit from additional audience growth via Kudos’ research showcases; PLOS editorial and marketing teams will gain additional insights into authors’ communication activities and networks, enabling them to better support and amplify these.
The companies share a focus on transformation in research communication. Kudos has demonstrated the value of summarizing research and promoting it to broader audiences, both within and beyond academia; a study published in PLOS in 2016 showed articles for which Kudos had been used had 23% higher growth in usage than similar content, while more recent data shows articles included in Kudos’ promotions and showcases achieve more than 60 x the views of other content.
“’Making open access more accessible has been a goal for PLOS for some time now,” says Clare Dean, Director, Journals Marketing & Outreach at PLOS. “That has many implications for us but among those is our desire to help broader audiences find, understand and make use of PLOS content. Partnering with Kudos is part of our strategy to achieve that, and we are pleased to be helping our authors tap into Kudos’ experience and networks.”
“At Kudos, we passionately believe that the promise of open science cannot be realized without active, meaningful steps to ensure research is understood and applied by broader audiences,” says Colin Caveney, Head of Business Development at Kudos. “PLOS is recognized for its leadership of the open science movement, so we’re really proud that they are joining us to scale up efforts to summarize and promote research for audiences within and beyond academia.”
