UKSG Link Resolver Project: An Update
(click here to link to earlier announcements on this project)

In April the United Kingdom Serials Group (UKSG – www.uksg.org ) announced their intention to fund a research project identifying the relationships and information exchange requirements between publishers, resolver software and knowledge base suppliers, subscription agents and libraries to maximise the benefit of Open URL linking technology. An invitation to tender for the project was issued in July and following the recent assessment of submissions awarded to Scholarly Information Strategies (SIS – www.scholinfo.com). SIS will start work on the project very shortly and will be inviting a cross section of stake holders to participate.  As well as identifying simple practical steps to improve the current situation they will also explore models for the future identifying the pros and cons of a “centralised” knowledge base.

The research will be concluded in January 07 with findings disseminated at the UKSG Annual Conference 16-18th March 07 and a subsequent article in Serials.
