DESCRIPTION:Course summary\nChairs: Diana Massam\, Jisc and Fiona Ainsworth\, Royal Botanic Gardens\, Kew \n\nThis one-day seminar aims to present a practical introductory overview of all aspects of e-resources management\, encompassing e-journals\, e-books and bibliographic and full-text databases. \n\nThe emphasis is on developing a sound basic understanding of the details of e-resources handling in order to promote efficient and informed working practices.  A wide range of day-to-day issues will be covered\, with time devoted to recognising and resolving the problems that can arise at the boundaries between publishers\, intermediaries and libraries\, and addressing business models such as open access.  In addition\, the seminar will provide a forum for a group discussion on the current issues and opportunities offered by e-books. \n\nDelegates will be able to air and exchange views in the discussion session after each presentation. \n\n\nWhy you should attend \n\nDesigned particularly for staff who are new to working with e-resources\, whether from a publisher\, an intermediary or a library\, this seminar may also be of interest to those looking to consolidate and update their e-resources knowledge. \n\n“I thought that the course was very comprehensive\, and was a great introduction. She serves as the ALA-NISO representative to vote on NISO/ISO standards on behalf of the American Library Association and is a member of the Project COUNTER Executive Committee. He worked as a reference librarian at East Carolina University and at the University of Washington\, before founding Serials Solutions with two brothers and a high school friend in 2000. He left Serials Solutions (by then part of ProQuest) in 2009\, and started ShipIndex.org\, a website that helps people do research in maritime history. Peter received the Ulrichs Serials Librarianship Award in 2011\, and the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of North Carolina School of Information & Library Science in 2012.
