SUMMARY:FREE UKSG webinar - Digital Scholarship and the Future of the Book
DESCRIPTION:Scholarly authors are increasingly using digital tools. They want to produce enhanced ebooks and interactive scholarly works\, but these tend not to fit into existing publisher and librarian workflows. Fulcrum is a platform developed at the University of Michigan that supports authors who want to push the boundaries of the book. The University of Michigan Press Ebook Collection (UMP EBC) includes an increasing number of enhanced titles and takes full advantage of the rich features on the Fulcrum platform. Thanks to the support of purchasing libraries\, UMP EBC is able to sustain the publication of new forms of scholarship\, including open access titles\, and sustain the open-source\, community-based scholarly infrastructure. In this webinar attendees will learn about this new form of scholarship\, including how it is being sustained by the community via UMP EBC and Fulcrum\, and walk away with inspired to sustain this burgeoning community.   \nRegister for this recording \n\nYou may still register for the recording of the webinar by visiting the GoToWebinar site. \n\nSlides \n\nOur speakers have kindly agreed to make their slides available. SUMMARY:FREE UKSG webinar - Knowledge justice on the internet: different ways of knowing and doing
DESCRIPTION:The infrastructure\, content\, and design of digital tools and spaces increasingly underpin our many modes of both offline and online communication. This is especially true during this time of forced immobility in response to the coronavirus pandemic. But as the internet has become suddenly more central to our lives\, this moment has also revealed the many ways in which internet access and use are unequal. In this talk\, we frame the issue of internet inequality in terms of ‘knowledge justice’ — aspiring to equal participation\, representation\, and visibility of different forms of knowledge online. We explore how our experiences of the internet are the products of certain exclusive knowledges. And we share some of the exciting ways in which we can build an internet that is more inclusive\, accessible\, diverse\, multi-directional\, and just– an internet that is truly for and by us all. \nRegister for this recording \n\nYou may still register for the recording of the webinar by visiting the GoToWebinar site. \n\nTranscript \n\nThe recording including transcript is available on the UKSG webinar channel. \n\n(Please note that webinars have software generated transcripts therefore are not 100% accurate.
