This session shares how two colleagues at Durham University worked together to develop the institution’s first OER policy and build a web platform to showcase existing open resources. Starting with little more than a conviction that it mattered\, we reflect honestly on the process: making the case internally\, navigating approval routes\, designing something people would actually use\, and the ongoing work of generating interest across a large and busy university. For anyone thinking about how to get OER taken seriously at their own institution\, this is a warts-and-all account of what that looks like in practice. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRoss Parker \n\n\n\nUniversity of Durham  \n\n\n\n\n\nSee Biography\nRoss Parker is a Senior Digital Education Consultant at Durham University’s Centre for Academic Development\, aligned to the Faculty of Science\, with 12 years’ experience in digital education. A co-author of Durham’s first institutional OER policy\, Ross has championed open practice across the university\, including making the case for specialist open-source software for STEM subjects and contributing to the introduction of lecture capture. His areas of interest include digital accessibility and multimedia learning. Ross holds an MSc in Digital Education from the University of Edinburgh and is currently completing a Senior Leadership qualification at Durham Business School. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAdel Gordon \n\n\n\nUniversity of Durham  \n\n\n\n\n\nSee Biography\nWith over 25 years in Digital Learning in Higher Education\, Adel brings pedagogical expertise to Durham University\, collaborating with academic staff to design\, develop\, and enhance teaching across online\, blended\, and face-to-face environments. Co-author of Durham’s OER policy\, Adel has hands-on experience creating Open Educational Resources in partnership with academics in Science disciplines. Her collaborative approach centres on translating subject expertise into engaging learning experiences\, improving student engagement through thoughtful design of materials\, activities\, and assessments\, with a growing commitment to open education as a driver of quality and access. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n14:40 \n\n\n\n\n\nBreak \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n14:55 \n\n\n\n\n\nSession 3: Co-creating OER services with students to contribute to a more open and inclusive curriculum at King’s College London \n\n\n\nKing’s 100 provides a unique opportunity for students to work as co-creators with teams and services across King’s College London to develop new initiatives and projects that directly impact the student experience. In 2025\, the Open Education Working Group in King’s Libraries & Collections put forward a successful proposal to partner with the King’s 100 to discover how students felt about open educational resources\, and to consider how we could promote\, create and showcase OER at King’s. This presentation details that journey: the valuable insight we’ve gained from more than 100 students\, current outputs and future plans. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCharlie Worthington \n\n\n\nKing’s College London  \n\n\n\n\n\nSee Biography\nCharlie has worked at King’s College London since 2016\, joining as a Library Liaison Manager before moving into her current role as Collections Liaison Librarian\, supporting the faculties of business\, law and dentistry.
