Designed particularly for staff who are new to working with e-resources, whether from a publisher, an intermediary or a library, this seminar may also be of interest to those looking to consolidate and update their e-resources knowledge.

20 June 2018 Licensing Skills for Librarians – London 

A course from Jisc Collections

The course has been written for serials and acquisitions librarians involved in e-resource purchasing in academic institutions; librarians in these institutions who are being trained to undertake purchasing roles will also benefit from attending.  Participants will gain a good understanding of the key issues surrounding publisher licensing and negotiations, together with practical skills and knowledge which they will be able to use in their professional lives.

21 June 2018 Negotiation Skills for Librarians – London 

The workshop for serials and acquisitions librarians and consortia members involved in the acquisition of electronic resources in academic institutions or on behalf of academic consortia*.  Written at an introductory-intermediate level, the workshop is for those who are new to negotiations or who have some negotiation experience and are seeking a ‘refresher’ and/or additional tips, skills and knowledge.  It will also benefit those being trained to undertake purchasing roles in the future.

October 2018 - Usage Statistics for Decision Making – tbc

Delegates will have the opportunity to reflect on the role of statistics in the broader context of further and higher education, and the culture of assessment that is becoming increasingly prominent within the sector. Delegates will also have the chance to share their own experiences, positive and negative, of using statistics for decision making and will be encouraged to actively participate throughout the day.

Oct/Nov 2018 –  UKSG Introduction to open access publication and compliance workflows - London

This new course will present an overview of publication processes and workflows, with a particular focus on the evolving best practice workflows around open access publication, and compliance with government policies and funder mandates. It will

  • outline the key stages in publishing a journal article, from submission, to publication, to measuring usage and impact, and why these are significant for complying with policies and mandates
  • examine the roles of publishers, libraries and intermediaries in supporting these stages
  • look at the emerging range of tools, standards and services supporting the process

November 2018 – E-Resources for FE – London

This one-day event will address the issues and practicalities of providing and managing effective high quality e-resource collections within Further Education libraries. During the day there will be opportunities to hear best practice case studies in managing e-resources and in evaluating their use, together with advice and strategies from current practitioners in colleges.” And “The day will provide delegates with the opportunity to join in the discussions, develop learning opportunities, share tips, techniques and strategies, and leave inspired with practical ideas that can be integrated into their own service and environment.  This event is offered free to the FE community, but numbers are limited.
