Over a 20-year career with Wiley, Pergamon, Elsevier and Harcourt, Peter Shepherd has gained experience in all aspects of STM journal, book and database publishing. Dr Shepherd is now an independent publishing consultant. Since 2002 he has been Project Director of COUNTER, an international initiative to improve the reliability of online usage statistics. Release 2 of the COUNTER Code of Practice for Journals and Databases was published in April 2005. Release 1 of the COUNTER Code of Practice for books and reference works was published in March 2006. Peter received a PhD in chemistry in 1978 from St Andrews University and joined the publishing industry in 1980, following a post-doctoral research fellowship at the University of California, Santa Barbara. - Key Perspectives Ltd.
