Situated right in the heart of this vibrant cosmopolitan city, the venue for the UKSG 2004 Annual Conference and Exhibition is UMIST, Manchester. This major event offers the perfect opportunity for librarians, publishers, agents, information specialists and database providers from across the world to exchange news, views and information on the rapidly changing and developing international serials scene.
- Plenary sessions on topics such as the role of libraries in the knowledge economy, the dynamics of the publishing industry, deep resource sharing, open access, digital rights management, legal deposit, and Google.
- Fifteen workshops and briefing sessions for delegates to select from, including resource discovery and e-journal linking services, using COUNTER statistics, print periodical relegation and disposal, the EC Copyright Directive, advice for newcomers to serials, printing on-demand, SUNCAT, link resolvers, and metadata.
- A major trade exhibition and reviews of the latest products and services.
- Social events, including an informal gathering and buffet supper at UMIST on Sunday evening for early arrivals, the highly popular Monday night quiz and, on Tuesday, a reception and conference dinner at the Imperial War Museum North, a fascinating new building, designed by Daniel Libeskind, which is situated on the Manchester Ship Canal opposite The Lowry.
