Scientific Publications: Free for all?

The Geological Society, London
Tuesday 23rd November 2004

The much-anticipated report of the House of Commons Science and Technology Committee on scientific publications appeared in July to intense industry and media debate. The Committee's conclusions and recommendations are far-reaching and embrace publishing models, pricing, peer review, institutional repositories, digital preservation, library budgets and more. The UKSG is bringing together senior figures from the Science and Technology Committee and the world of publishing and libraries to debate the issues raised by the report from a range of viewpoints. Dr Ian Gibson MP, the Committee's Chair, will deliver the opening presentation, setting the scene for other eminent speakers, many of whom were witnesses to the inquiry. Fytton Rowland will chair the day and summarise the proceedings at the end of each session.

This UKSG seminar is key to all players in the serials world. As busy professionals, the day will help you digest and interpret the inquiry's 82 conclusions and recommendations, so you will come away with a clear view of the report's implications for you.
