This one-day training seminar, one of a series organised by UKSG and Project COUNTER, will give a practical hands-on introduction to accessing, collating, utilising, presenting, and marketing e-resource usage statistics, both COUNTER-compliant and otherwise.  Experts from different sectors will provide their perspectives on the role and importance of usage statistics.  Future developments in the provision and exploitation of use measurement statistics will also be covered.

A one-day seminar for those interested in the day-to-day handling of e-resources in Further Education Colleges

Whilst there are similarities between the academic demands placed on both Higher Education and Further Education libraries with regard to providing users with appropriate collections of learning materials, the constraints and challenges in applying this to
e-resource provision are quite different.

Many of us working directly with e-resources in libraries would like to feel more confident in our understanding of the related technology.  Managing e-resources and making them available to end-users is quite different from dealing with print products, but many of us have moved from one to the other, picking up expertise informally.  As a result we probably all have gaps in our knowledge and understanding, and the need to gain a proper balanced overview of the technical environment is crucial if we are to do our jobs effectively.

How libraries, publishers and other stakeholders are responding to hard times

Summary

For the last year or more the world has been reeling from the impact of the global financial crisis quickly followed by a good old-fashioned recession.  Although there are signs that in some countries the formal recession is coming to an end, at least for now, the effects of this shock to the world economy have already been felt in the scholarly communications world, and are likely to continue, in many countries, for the next few years.

To meet the needs of librarians involved in the acquisition of electronic resources, UKSG is pleased to offer a practical one-day Licensing and Negotiation Skills course.

Unfortunately, it has proved necessary to cancel this course.  It is hoped to provide the course on a new date later in the year.
